US resumes passenger flights to Cuba after 50 years

WASHINGTON: The United States has resumed scheduled passenger flights to Cuba after more than fifty years.

A flight took off from Fort Lauderdale in Florida to Santa Clara in Cuba showing further improvement in warming relations between the two countries.

The route may be a commercial challenge, at least initially, but it is the first of a plethora of new flights by various U.S. airlines to destinations on the Communist-ruled island.
