Haider is an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet’. In mid 90’s Kashmir, Haider’s mother marries her brother-in-law after his father disappears suddenly. This disturbs Haider which later based for his demise. A strong show of anger and revenge.
Trailer reveals first ever bald look of Shahid Kapoor. Unlike most of films where he played funny characters this one seems way more different than the orthodox Shahid Kapoor we know. After ‘Mausam’ and ‘Kaminey’ which made pretty good business Shahid is eyeing for another serious role.
Ophelia in Hamlet is played by the new bollywood sensation Shradha Kapoor. The famous ‘Arohi’ of Aashiqui2 will play the role of a journalist ‘Arshia’ falling in love with the lead character Shahid Kapoor. Both show some pretty good chemistry in between them.
Movie is pictured mostly in ‘heaven on earth: Kashmir’. Haider has been shot at several locations including Sonamarg, Anantnag, Pahalgam and Dal Lake. Vishal Bhardwaj nailed the idea as it also engulfed the political intrigue and history of Kashmir. Haider is the third in the Shakespeare series by Vishal Bhardwaj, after making Omkara based on Othello and Maqbool on Macbeth.
In an interview with The Times of India, Bharadwaj was quoted saying,
“I had always planned to start out with Macbeth. I had read Merchant Of Venice in school but Macbeth was the first play I read as a filmmaker. Taking several creative liberties, I adapted it as Maqbool, following it up with Omkara, an adaptation of Othello. I could have wrapped up the trilogy with either King Lear or Hamlet. I opted for the latter because it had a thread of sexual conflict running through it, which is there in the other two films too.”
