Cobras from South africa won the toss and opted to field against knights from New Zealand. Since toss nothing was in favor of cobras it was all about knights. The first 200-plus total of this tournament, and Knights simply powered through their innings, with the openers setting them up with a century stand 140 runs partnership between Williamson and Devich when Devich got out on 67 of 46 balls and Williamson carrying on to reach his century. He’s been in unstoppable form in this tournament, and some of the shots he hit today were simply effortless. The beauty about Williamson’s innings is that he played only 7 dot balls. 62 of his runs were in boundaries and he also scored 39 of his runs in singles and twos. That is the art of good batsmanship. He scored 101 notout on just 49 balls scoring at Strike rate of more than 200.
Cobras were facing a massive target of 207 when their openers walked out. Their job got even tougher after an unplayable first ball from Trent Boult – it was quick, pitched up and curving away. Stiaan van Zyl was cleaned bowled. Cobras only manage to score 44 in 7.2 overs when rain stopped the play and knights were declared winners according to D/L.
Kane Williamson was declared Man of the match, he said that We had a bit of luck at the start with balls falling into gaps, and it was great batting with Anton. I suppose it has to be [my standout T20 innings] and it was nice to bat through. Always trying to work on my shots and hit the balls into the gaps and adapting to different conditions. It’s great to have four wins in a row and play at the same ground and be reasonably familiar with it.
Knights won now four in a row, three in qualifying stage and now one in main round. Its really sad to see a team of such class played in qualifying stage.
