1st Test: Sri Lanka v Pakistan at Galle, Aug 6-10, 2014



A big event for the fan followers of the cricket lovers, live from the stadium Galle with a squad of both the teams with a humble attitude after a long period. Where Sri Lanka is a host team. Following the trend the captain of both the teams get ready to toss and luckily Pakistan won the toss and elects the bat first.  This match is important for the Sri Lanka team as the Mahela Jayawardene is playing his last series so emotional moment for them. So moving on, Pakistan made some changes in coaching department. Waqar Younis has been recalled as a head coach and Zimbabwean Grant Flower was appointed as a batting coach. From the side of Pakistan team Mohammad Hafeez is dropped and Umar Akmal is recall in the test squad. In the bowling department Saeed Ajmal will be the basic key on the spin-friendly Galle track. Sri Lanka has made changes i.e. wicket keeper batsman Dinesh Chandimal and spinner Ajantha Mendis left out.

Umpire: IJ Gould and BNJ Oxenford, TV umpire: RK Illingworth, Match Referee: AJ Pycroft and Reserve Umpire: RSA Palliyaguruge are the part of this test series. The surface of Galle is a dry surface and the seemers are expected to get aid in getting reserve swing from the ball. The Monsoon season’s wetness may alos add moisture and surface may look different. Whereas Sri Lanka at Galle has track record marvelously as they have won 11 out of 20 games since 2000.

Sri Lanka Squad consists of ngelo Mathews (Capt), Niroshan Dickwella (WK), Upul Tharanga, Kaushal Silva, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Kithuruwan Vithanage, Dilruwan Perera, Nuwan Pradeep/ Dhammika Prasad, Rangana Herath, Shaminda Eranga.

The game turned around when Pakistan shaheen get ready to perform in the field with great enthusiasm. But like always Pakistani opening pair failed to provide Pakistan with the promising start. Ahmed Shehzad was the first man out in the 2nd innings of the match, soon after losing first wicket Khurram Manzoor was laos unable to stay at the wicket and he walked away in the 6th over of the innings. Pakistan in the start of the morning session failed to take a good start.

Opening batsman lost in just 19 runs. Azhar Ali and Younis Khan came to bat and shared a 37 runs partnership that made Pakistan get to 50 marks in the morning session of the day. 3rd wicket of Azhar Lai at 56 runs is a 30 runs scored batsman.  Skipper now joined brave Younis Khan who like always looked confident and comfortable against the bowling of the Sri Lanka pacers.  A hindered runs partnership was shared by the experienced batsmen from the Pakistan batting lineup.

Let’s move on the Bravo Younis Khan’s century batting. The cptain Misba ul Haq was caught behind the wickets and he contributed with 31 runs for his team. Now the team have got under pressure but the game turn the round when Younis Khan played fluently with 85% control with his bat. He made his century off 181 balls with the help of 8 boundaries and 1 six. He pulled out his team from the disastrous situation. He has contributed 133 runs into the teams total and he is still at the crease. Asad shafiq and Younis Kahn have contributed 105 runs into the team’s total in 5th wicket partnership.

Now the score is 261 at 4 wickets under 88 overs and Younis Kahn is not out.
